GUWAHATI: The 820 participants of the World record-setting Bihu performance belonging to the Kamrup Metropolitan District of the state received their certificates and stipends during an event held on Friday. Assam Minister of Cultural Affairs Bimal Borah was present for the event organized by the district administration in the Pragjyoti ITA Cultural Centre here.
The minister officially presented the stipend of Rs 25,000 directly into the accounts of the 820 participants at the push of a button. 20 Bihuas and Bihuwatis were presented the certificate ceremoniously during the event, and the rest were requested to collect their certificates from the DC office on July 5.
Speaking on the occasion, Bimal Borah said, "The 11,000 boys and girls of the state who presented Bihu to the world from the Sarusajai Stadium have made all of us very proud. And Bihu has now become the identity of the Assamese people, so much so that we do not need any brand ambassadors. Bihu is Assam's brand ambassador."
Speaking to the performers, the minister added, "Bihu dance is not just for fun and frolic; along with the dance, we must also look into the economic prospects. This is the time of value addition, and we must consider the same through Bihu. You must look into new possibilities regarding silk clothes, traditional instruments, etc."
He also mentioned that the Chief Minister is considering a plan to attract tourists during the Bohag Bihu and that it will bring massive benefits to the state. Several members of the legislature, administration, and cultural fields attended this event in the capital city.
